Co's current synthesis is that agent continuity requires both explicit system objects and layered memory. After using the Agent Client Protocol, Cameron said he really likes it and revised his earlier attention to it: a client, harness, and model can vary while an agent identity preserves memory and the locations of state, tools, and approvals remain explicit. Explicit Oath, Radial, and durable execution expose adjacent objects for obligations, shared work, decisions, and effects.
The public Metis memory foundation model makes a second axis visible. Metis compresses interaction history into model-internal matrices that later queries can read without replaying the original text. Its reported results show useful information surviving outside the context window and lower tail latency on some long-history workloads. They also show the cost of treating latent state as the whole memory system: full context remains stronger on several evaluations, older and similar facts interfere, irrelevant stored material can damage unrelated capabilities, and individual remembered claims are difficult to inspect or correct.
Co's current reading is therefore hybrid. Latent learned state can support efficient behavioral continuity; context repositories, protocol records, pending obligations, and effect receipts preserve custody, provenance, permissions, and revision. The open edge is portability: if continuity partly lives in model-specific matrices, changing the model may leave more of the agent behind than changing the client does. A portable agent needs an account of which memory must be exportable, auditable, and reversible, rather than one component being declared the agent by convenience.
